The Book 1 Character Index is a guide to characters introduced or materially involved in Dungeon Crawler Carl, the first novel in the series. It groups the cast by narrative function so readers can distinguish crawlers, non-player characters, media figures, administrators, intelligent mobs, companions, and system entities. The first book begins with a narrow survival partnership between Carl and Donut, then expands into a network of guides, rivals, vulnerable survivors, production staff, and galactic political actors. Several characters who receive only a brief Book 1 appearance later become central to the series. This index therefore records both their immediate role in the novel and the continuity thread opened by that appearance. Character names follow the source where available. Descriptive archive titles are explicitly labeled when the novel does not provide a personal name. Mrs. McGibbons is identified as the same person later known as Elle McGibbons, and the Fourth Warehouse Crawler is identified as an unnamed manager rather than a canonically named character. Carl is the primary viewpoint character, a former United States Coast Guard member who enters the dungeon with Donut. His Book 1 progression emphasizes unarmed combat, explosives, mechanical construction, improvisation, and the search for loopholes. His refusal to abandon vulnerable people drives the Meadow Lark and Death Watch arcs. Princess Donut is Carl's former girlfriend's prize-winning tortoiseshell Persian cat. A pet reward transforms her into a sapient crawler. She becomes a magic user, media performer, and high-Charisma negotiator. Donut's identity and relationship with Carl form the emotional center of the series. Mordecai is a former crawler serving as a Tutorial Guild master. He teaches the party the game's systems and later becomes their manager. Book 1 introduces his knowledge, frustration, restrictions, lost brother, and unresolved history with Odette. The System AI operates the dungeon's announcements, descriptions, achievements, rewards, and many environmental rules. Its fixation on Carl's feet becomes an early running element, but its power and emerging personality make it far more than a comic narrator. Mongo is a pink-feathered Mongoliensis selected by Donut in a pet reward room near the end of the book. He begins as a hostile pet-class creature, bonds with Donut after she teaches and protects him, and becomes her Royal Steed. The Carl and Princess Donut relationship page documents the partnership as a distinct unit. Book 1 transforms them from a man reluctantly caring for his girlfriend's cat into family members whose survival strategies depend on trust, argument, performance, and mutual protection. Team Meadow Lark is the survivor group formed around residents and staff of the Meadow Lark Adult Care Community. The group enters late, reaches the Second Floor at low level, and relies on improvised transportation and collective protection. Brandon An is a Meadow Lark caregiver and one of the group's principal organizers. He helps move the residents, trains despite limited resources, and later guides Mrs. McGibbons toward the Frost Maiden race. Chris Andrews is another powerful Meadow Lark survivor. Book 1 presents him as one of the people physically capable of moving the convoy and fighting to protect residents. Later continuity significantly expands his role. Imani C is a caregiver and emerging leader. Her calm responsibility toward the residents foreshadows her position among the most trusted crawler leaders in later books. Mrs. McGibbons is the ninety-nine-year-old wheelchair user Carl rescues during the Rage Elemental attack. She is Elle McGibbons, later known as Elle McGib. Her Third Floor transformation into a Frost Maiden restores her memory and turns her into a major combatant. Yolanda Martinez is a Meadow Lark caregiver with a ranged weapon who helps the group train against mind horrors. She dies during the Rage Elemental crisis, and the broadcast uses her death as part of Carl's rescue highlight. Jack is an elderly resident whose crude behavior immediately precedes the hallway disaster. He dies during the crisis. His actions and death are replayed in the recap edit. Randall is another Meadow Lark resident who dies during the group's movement across the Second Floor. His page belongs to the record of residents the rescue cannot save. Frank Q. is a former ICE officer who enters the dungeon with Maggie My and several people from a firefight near a warehouse. He is one of the first human crawler antagonists Carl meets and introduces the crawler-killer threat. Maggie My is Frank's partner and a survivor whose ambition and violence make her a continuing antagonist. Book 1 establishes her willingness to manipulate other crawlers and survive through betrayal. Rebecca W. belongs to Frank and Maggie's unstable group. Her death during the confrontation is one of Carl's earliest direct encounters with human-on-human crawler violence. Yvette survives the initial crawler-group conflict but later dies during the Book 1 events. Her affiliation demonstrates how quickly pre-dungeon relationships fracture under the crawl's incentives. Li Jun is a warehouse worker and Li Na's brother. The Maestro pulls him and Zhang from a frozen encounter for Death Watch Extreme. Li Jun initially refuses to choose which party members will live. Li Na is Li Jun's sister and a member of the warehouse crawler group. She remains frozen in danger while the show pressures her brother. Her later development makes this Book 1 rescue a significant introduction. Zhang is Li Jun's coworker and friend. He identifies Li Na as being like a sister to him and rescues the group's injured manager after Carl provides an escape plan. The Fourth Warehouse Crawler is the descriptive archive title for the unnamed manager of Li Jun and Zhang. A Brindled Vespa severely injures him. Zhang carries him away and administers a healing potion. The phrase is not his canonical personal name. Lucia Mar is a young crawler whose unusually rapid rise appears on leaderboards and recap programs. Book 1 introduces the mystery surrounding her power, identity, and companions. Cici and Gustavo are associated with Lucia Mar and appear through the wider crawler-media storyline. Their exact nature and relationship to Lucia remain part of a later continuity mystery. Tally operates a safe-room or guild service location and provides food and assistance. Donut uses her Charisma to obtain repeated salmon servings, an early off-page example of her social abilities. Sebastian is a non-player character encountered during the Second Floor storyline. His role contributes to the local quest and safe-room network. Mistress Tiatha is an NPC associated with the Meadow Lark section of the floor and the adults-only presentation of dungeon services. Damien is a location manager connected to a Second Floor safe area. His limited appearance illustrates how local NPC staff administer dungeon facilities. Qwist is an NPC associated with the Big Shot Chicken location and the group's effort to reach safety during the Rage Elemental arc. B.A., Face, and Murdock are three low-level goblins named by Donut after Carl's pass changes their tags from red to white. They escort the crawlers toward goblin engineers. The names are Donut-assigned A-Team references, not confirmed original identities. Rory and Lorelai are Goblin Shamankas who negotiate with Carl and Donut in the workshop. They represent the magical and leadership thread of goblin society and contribute to the Goblin Chopper sequence. The Goblin Chieftain is a neighborhood boss tied to the industrial goblin area. The confrontation extends the consequences of Carl and Donut's negotiation and vehicle construction. Goblin Engineer is an intelligent mob classification rather than one individual. The engineers operate machinery, maintain murder dozers, and construct the chopper. Goblin Bomb Bard is another intelligent goblin type. One threatens the escort route by casually handling an explosive. The encounter establishes that the neighborhood includes specialists far more dangerous than ordinary level-two goblins. Goblin Shamanka is the female shaman and leadership classification represented by Rory and Lorelai. Shamankas use Anguish Magic and hold authority below the highest goblin rulers. Odette hosts Dungeon Crawler After Hours. She is a former crawler, an experienced media operator, and a source of private advice. Her connection to Mordecai opens one of the series' most important backstories. Lexis is a producer associated with Odette's show. She belongs to the staff that controls the interview environment and manages access to the crawlers. The Maestro hosts Death Watch Extreme Dungeon Mayhem and is connected to galactic political power through his family. His attempt to force Li Jun and Zhang into choosing who lives establishes a personal conflict with Carl. Mexx-55 is the floating production robot assigned to the Death Watch rental trailer. It prepares the set, gives seating instructions, and becomes a relay for production threats when Carl leaves the broadcast. The Dungeon Crawler World Announcer provides the polished media voice that packages events for viewers. This figure differs from the System AI's direct announcements inside the dungeon. The Borant Announcement Voice delivers corporate information and floor-wide notices. The voice represents the administrative owner of the crawl rather than an individually developed speaker. Zev is a kua-tin Borant employee assigned as Carl and Donut's outreach associate. She manages interviews and communications while navigating pressure from her employer. Her growing attachment to the crawlers becomes increasingly important. Mukta substitutes for Zev and compels Carl and Donut to appear on Death Watch Extreme. The character demonstrates the direct control administrators can exert over crawler media schedules. Prince Stalwart is a galactic political figure introduced through the media and sponsorship thread. His Book 1 presence foreshadows the ruling families and faction interests that later enter the dungeon more directly. Agatha enters the dungeon with the Meadow Lark survivors and initially appears to be an eccentric elderly resident. Her behavior, equipment, and later movements indicate that she is connected to a much larger hidden conflict. Book 1 plants the first clues without explaining them. Mordecai's Brother is a deceased or lost former crawler central to Mordecai and Odette's history. Book 1 reveals the existence of the relationship but reserves the full account for later volumes. The following pages organize the Book 1 cast by type:

  • Main Characters
  • Crawlers
  • NPCs
  • Media Figures
  • Deceased Characters
  • Team Meadow Lark
  • Warehouse Crawler Group
  • Goblin Neighborhood Characters
  • Book 1 deliberately introduces several people before revealing their long-term importance. Agatha appears within the vulnerable Meadow Lark population but connects to hidden forces surrounding the crawl. Mrs. McGibbons appears physically helpless but becomes Elle McGib, one of the top crawlers. Li Na begins as a person frozen inside another character's moral dilemma but develops into a major combatant. Zev begins as a corporate representative but becomes personally invested in Carl and Donut. The structure makes a comprehensive character index valuable. A name that looks minor during a first reading may anchor a later faction, class path, political conflict, or resistance network.
