Mongo

Mongo is Princess Donut's velociraptor-like pet, combat familiar, and adopted child. He hatches from a dinosaur egg obtained on the Second Floor and grows from a vulnerable juvenile into a powerful feathered predator. Mongo's bond with Donut, rivalry and later mating relationship with Kiwi, repeated mechanical replicas, and role in nearly every major coalition battle make him one of the central nonhuman members of the Princess Posse. Donut receives the egg through a prize-room sequence and claims Mongo immediately after he hatches. The system formalizes him as her pet, but Donut treats him as her son. Carl becomes a secondary caregiver, managing feeding, training, equipment, and the danger created by bringing an excitable predator into saferooms and public appearances. Mongo gains levels, physical size, speed, and intelligence as the party descends. Fang caps add strength, movement, poison, paralysis, and other combat effects. Donut's pet-class abilities heal, summon, recall, and enhance him. His colorful feathers and expressive calls support a media persona that contrasts with his ability to tear apart armored enemies. Donut can create clockwork Mongo copies that imitate portions of his attack pattern. The replicas scout, test bombs, distract bosses, and add numbers to a fight without replacing the living animal. They are expendable constructs, while injuries to the real Mongo have lasting emotional and tactical consequences. Mongo initially reacts to Kiwi as a threat and potential mate. Their relationship becomes a source of comedy, jealousy, and genuine attachment. Kiwi later gives birth, expanding the companion network. Donut's insistence on Mongo's dignity shapes public campaigns such as Justice for Mongo and affects her relationships with other pet owners. Mongo fights hunters, totems, sponsor armies, War Mages, Tenth Floor creatures, and the Parade. Shi Maria injures him while controlling Carl, intensifying Carl's guilt. He survives the Eleventh Floor transition with Donut and remains an active familiar, though the increasing power of gods and Outside Intelligences makes protecting him more difficult.
