The floor sequence

The Seventh Floor is the Great Race, but Prepotente breaks its branching tube maze almost immediately and sends the crawlers from the Sixth to the Eighth before normal traversal. The Tenth Floor later introduces a separate seven-heat format, β€œDon't Come in Last.” See the Books and Floors Map for illustrated geography and the consequences that connect one descent to the next.

What carries between books

The series rewards reading in order because apparent jokes and one-floor mechanics rarely stay isolated. Carl's bare feet affect achievements, equipment, public branding, and the AI's attention. Donut's show identity becomes a political movement. The Gate changes Larracos before the party reaches it. Frank Q's ring remains active long after Frank dies. Agatha's shopping cart carries clues whose meaning expands across the series. The same is true of relationships. Mordecai's advice is shaped by his own crawl and his history with Odette. Katia's loyalty, body, addiction, and Crown problem cannot be separated into one book. NPC allies such as Juice Box move from local quest figures into actors with military and political goals.
