The Maestro

The Maestro is a Skull Empire prince and media personality who hosts Death Watch Extreme Dungeon Mayhem. His attempts to humiliate and kill Carl make him an early recurring antagonist. The Valtay kill him after a failed assassination attempt targets Carl but kills Manasa instead. The Maestro is a son of King Rust and Queen Consort Ugloo and a sibling of Stalwart and Formidable. He initially stands in the royal succession but is disowned as his scandals and failures accumulate. His title is a stage identity suited to a host who treats suffering as a performance. As host of Death Watch Extreme Dungeon Mayhem, the Maestro builds a brand around lethal spectacle. Carl and Donut's appearance produces the humiliating Pork Boy sequence and helps send the program into hiatus. The conflict shows how a crawler can damage an elite not by winning a fair duel but by making his public persona look ridiculous. The Maestro is associated with the Skull Empire's war-god strategy and inhabits or operates through Grull in a dungeon confrontation. Princess Formidable supplies Katia with a Bolt of Ophiotaurus, a weapon capable of harming a deity if fired into the eye. The family sponsorships are as much succession maneuvering as assistance to crawlers. A later plot meant to kill Carl instead kills Manasa. The Valtay retaliate against the Maestro for the botched operation. Carl understands from later political information that the prince has been killed and removed from succession. Even after his death, the Maestro shapes relations with the Skull Empire and its surviving royal family.
