Ferdinand

Ferdinand is the awakened identity of the orange Earth cat called Gravy Boat by Beatrice. Before the crawl he is a pedigreed show cat and planned mate for Princess Donut. After surviving on Earth's surface and entering the dungeon narrative, he becomes a speaking independent figure, the mayor of Shanty Town, and a Ninth Floor warlord allied with Juice Box. Ferdinand and Gravy Boat are the same individual, not duplicate cats. Beatrice calls the cat Gravy Boat, while Donut insists his proper name is Ferdinand. He is selected as part of Bea's breeding and show plans, creating a mixture of romance, status, and ownership that Donut remembers with both longing and resentment. He survives Earth's collapse on the surface with Bea. Walk-on trackers locate Bea and Gravy Boat as potential leverage against Carl and Donut. A violent disruption at the camp allows the cat to escape while Bea remains in custody. Later floor events transform or import him into the dungeon story, where increased intelligence and speech let him reject the role of passive property. Ferdinand declares affection for Donut, but her response is not a simple romantic reunion. He develops a closer political and personal partnership with Juice Box, an awakened changeling leader. Donut eventually recognizes that Ferdinand's independence includes the right to choose loyalties and relationships outside her expectations. As mayor of Shanty Town and co-warlord of Team Retribution, Ferdinand commands territory and fights beside Juice Box. He wears a bowler hat, rides or works with Simoom, and repeatedly tries to help when Donut is endangered. His fear during the Nest tower crisis does not stop him from seeking Carl and demanding that they save her. Ferdinand and Juice Box relinquish their Ninth Floor posts and transfer onward under the floor's rules, allowing the Princess Posse to complete its victory conditions. A later system display still uses his warlord title in a transitional context, but he does not resume ordinary crawler status. His latest confirmed condition is alive at transfer, with his subsequent floor placement and freedom not fully shown.
