Chapter 27 of The Gate of the Feral Gods belongs to the escape from lusca sequence on the Fifth Floor. It combines a discrete survival problem with the evolving Gate, bubble, divine, and crawler-coordination storylines. Lusca has swallowed half of the Akula, juvenile octo-sharks are stripping the vessel, and a ten-minute special-event timer is running. Vadim moves toward the final escape hatch, while Carl, Katia, and Tran must decide whether to use the Gate, reach the stairwell compartment, or force a path through the city boss. The group lights the dark bridge and sees mouths covering the exterior window. Carl modifies hob-lobbers with expensive pus and depth-charge components while moving into the captain's stateroom. Vadim ignores warnings and uses the remaining hatch, leaving the others. Detonations kill large numbers of juveniles and create a route into Lusca's mouth. Carl refuses to activate the Gate for a simple escape because that would release a permanent feral god into bubble 543. He, Katia, and Tran swim toward the front of the mouth while Wisp Armor supplies light. Katia braces both men against her reshaped body. Carl times a large Protective Shell so its expanding sphere strikes Lusca from inside, peels back the upper jaw, and forces open the mouth. The survivors escape as the boss dies. Carl rejects the escape route the production appears to have engineered for him. He delays using the Gate until every available conventional option has failed, even though the boss can kill them in minutes. Vadim chooses individual escape and is lost. Katia keeps the party together, while Carl reinterprets a defensive spell as a moving kinetic weapon. Donut, outside the submarine, follows Carl's request to use the depth charges despite fearing that the blast may hit him. Juvenile octo-sharks consume foreign material inside Lusca's mouth, while the city boss circles the Water Quadrant at high speed. Wisp Armor provides visible magical light and protection underwater. Protective Shell creates a sphere whose radius scales with Intelligence and whose boundary can exert extraordinary force on surrounding tissue. The Gate's coordinate display responds to location, but activating it with components arranged incorrectly releases a feral entity into the current realm. Carl, Katia, and Tran reach the surface alive after Lusca's death. Vadim is absent and presumed dead. The Gate has been activated during the escape sequence, producing the Who Let the Gods Out achievement. The survivors rush into Pandinus and the personal space as a newly released entity shakes the world outside. Lusca's defeat grants a Gold City Boss Box, levels, special-event achievements, and high-tier loot. The released being is Orthrus, whose presence creates a mandatory bubble-wide quest and summons divine attention. The victory also proves that Carl can weaponize Protective Shell, a technique with consequences across later floors. Carl, Katia Grim, Tran, Vadim Zbar, Princess Donut through chat, Lusca, juvenile octo-sharks, Kevin, Magnificent Troy, and the System AI appear.
