Nekhebit is an ancient vulture goddess associated with betrayal, revenge, the Fae Diaspora, and a long conflict with Apito. She re-ascends during the Eighth Floor after her egg hatches. Odette enters the Celestial Ascendency as the outside participant driving Nekhebit, while Princess Donut later becomes the deity's champion. Nekhebit is described as jealous, scarred, terrible, and ancient. When elf mothers abandoned her worship for Apito, she blamed the male-dominated high elf court and cursed its descendants. The resulting Fae Diaspora includes many elf and fairy breeds said to descend from that court. The account comes through item lore and divine history, not neutral scholarship. An egg connected to Nekhebit hatches during the Eighth Floor. The creature grows as it flies away, and the system announces that Nekhebit has re-ascended. Unlike several restored gods, she does not enter as another deity's retainer. Odette announces that Nekhebit will instead have a retainer of her own. Odette publicly reveals that she will perform as Nekhebit. The sponsor and goddess remain separate identities even when Odette drives the divine shell. Odette's motives include old Ascendency history, Huanxin Jinx, Mordecai, and a willingness to risk death in order to resolve a long personal conflict. On the Ninth Floor, Donut gains the title Champion of Nekhebit together with additional deity-linked powers and the Oak Fell class. She is not required to worship Nekhebit, but she cannot pledge to a deity outside Nekhebit's court. The title helps push Donut's intelligence and strength beyond major thresholds and gives her abilities unprecedented for a current crawler. Nekhebit holds an ancient grudge against Apito's family and appears connected to the sub-pantheon containing Khepri. Carl suspects someone is eliminating gods in that group. Nekhebit remains active through Book 8, with Odette inside the divine game and Donut serving as champion. The ultimate Ascendency outcome is unresolved.
