Garret

Garret is Tserendolgor's level 20 Tummy Acher pet and a Crawl Con gift. He is a large, lumpy, mouth-dominated creature who wins the Butcher's Masquerade pet show. A special regeneration system makes death increase his power until a fifth death resets him to level 1, erases his memories, and produces the successor later named Sir Rendlegore. Garret resembles a huge meatball with stubby legs, no arms, a jagged mouth, and a single prominent tooth. He giggles, swallows enemies, and acts as a durable tank. His grotesque body contrasts with the affection Ren shows him and with his importance as a companion rather than disposable equipment. Each of Garret's first four deaths produces a twenty-five percent statistical increase and a new weakness. The fifth death resets him to level 1, removes accumulated memories, and requires a new bond and name. This mechanic makes physical continuity different from personal continuity. Garret enters the Butcher's Masquerade pet competition and receives Best in Show after Ren manipulates the ballot. The victory is entangled with politics, cheating, and Donut's outrage over Mongo. It also makes Garret part of a public story larger than his limited direct characterization. On the Eighth Floor, Tserendolgor is dying and deliberately uses the Knife of Frozen Tears to trigger Garret's fifth regeneration. She gives the resulting infant creature to Carl. Her decision saves the species-specific body and future potential while knowingly ending the Garret who remembers her. The regenerated infant later bonds with Carl and receives the name Sir Rendlegore, usually shortened to Rend. Rend is a successor body with enhanced potential, not Garret carrying uninterrupted memories. Garret's article therefore ends at the reset, while Rend's biography covers the new bond and later Faction Wars service.
