Chapter 30 of The Gate of the Feral Gods belongs to the biplane rescue of orthrus sequence on the Fifth Floor. It combines a discrete survival problem with the evolving Gate, bubble, divine, and crawler-coordination storylines. Orthrus is dying inside the opened bubble, the flying house cannot safely chase him, and the approaching divine threat makes delay impossible. Carl and Donut must launch a damaged drop-bear biplane from the Twister, attract the puppy across the bubble boundary, and survive without a visible horizon or a reliable runway. A Cookbook entry warns Carl about deity worship and smites. Louis and Firas position the flying house near the bubble edge while Carl learns the salvaged plane's controls during takeoff. Donut attaches Torch beneath the upper wing, and Carl discovers a simple gyroscope lock that functions as autopilot. She casts Meat Hooks, producing a long-lasting odor whose range scales with her exceptional Charisma. Orthrus follows, tumbles out of the bubble, and pursues the plane through the lacuna. The distant fire god remains visible near other worlds. An attack suddenly reduces Orthrus's health, and a blue crawler dot circles back to finish him. Carl identifies the attacker as Quan Ch. Carl chooses a barely repaired aircraft because only a fast mobile source can place the Meat Hooks scent beyond Orthrus's reach and lead him in the correct direction. Donut casts the repulsive spell despite her disgust and maintains it while flying. Carl deliberately takes the plane farther into the dark space to keep the puppy moving away from sharks and the lightning zone. Once Quan attacks, he turns back toward the threat even though the aircraft is unstable. Worship can impose repeated obligations, loss-of-faith penalties, and smites, as recorded in the Cookbook. Biplane Pilot improves through use but does not automatically teach every control. Meat Hooks attracts carnivorous pet-class mobs for a duration based on Intelligence and across a range based on Charisma, regardless of whether they are bonded to the caster. Popped bubble boundaries can be crossed by crawlers, vehicles, pets, and environmental entities. Orthrus has left bubble 543, but his health drops sharply after Quan's attack. Carl and Donut bank back toward the puppy to heal him and stop the rival crawler. Quan remains airborne through his celestial robe and appears willing to risk multiple worlds for the reward. The rescue becomes a direct crawler-versus-crawler confrontation. Carl's emergency response leads to the loss of the biplane, Quan's arm, and Carl's new relationship with Emberus. Meat Hooks proves that pet mechanics can control a god-scale environmental creature more effectively than brute force. Carl, Princess Donut, Orthrus, Quan Ch, Louis, Firas, Gwen, Tran, Emberus at a distance, Crawler Sinjin and Azin through the Cookbook, and the System AI appear or are referenced.
