Chapter 25 of The Gate of the Feral Gods belongs to the descent to the akula sequence on the Fifth Floor. It combines a discrete survival problem with the evolving Gate, bubble, divine, and crawler-coordination storylines. The final castle remains uncleared, the necropolis is still flooded, Henrik has stopped answering the watch, and Chris remains trapped with Maggie's parasite. Carl's group must reach the Akula, stop its pump, and inspect the submarine without drawing the Water Quadrant's largest predators. Carl checks on the tomb raiders, Juice Box, and the contained Chris before meeting Gwen, Britney Proskurina, and Vadim Zbar at Pandinus. Britney and Vadim are the last survivors of their original Water Quadrant party. From the flying house, the group drops chum bombs to pull sharks away and detonates some for experience. Katia forms a weighted diving bell around Carl, Tran, and Vadim, allowing a controlled descent with Water Breathing scrolls. Near the Akula, she spreads across the hull as camouflage while the others enter through a damaged opening. They identify neutral Big Boy Blue fish, evidence of the destroyed sentinel and boss, and the route toward the bridge. Quetzalcoatlus appears as a green spectral head, uses a devastating aural scream, injures Vadim, and draws a far larger creature toward the submarine. Carl refuses to abandon Chris to an easy but dangerous stairwell transfer and continues searching for a cure. For the Akula mission, he selects specialists rather than bringing Donut into deep water. Katia voluntarily remains outside as lookout and living camouflage, accepting the most exposed role. When Quetzalcoatlus appears, Carl orders Katia to blow ballast and escape instead of waiting for the interior team, because the incoming boss can destroy the entire vessel. Chum bombs attract aquatic predators and can be detonated for area damage. Water Breathing scrolls have limited duration and do not remove pressure or navigation risk. Katia can redistribute absorbed mass into a diving structure, anchors, fins, and camouflage. Some submarine inhabitants remain white-dot neutrals even inside a boss environment. Quetzalcoatlus is noncorporeal, uses an aural attack that bypasses ordinary protection, and can move through the hull. Carl, Tran, and Vadim are inside the Akula while Katia abandons the exterior and moves toward them through the vessel. Quetzalcoatlus has returned toward the bridge, and an unidentified giant creature reaches for the submarine. Boss music begins before the group can stop the pump or secure an escape route. The expedition discovers Henrik's dead changeling team and the final Gate watch. The approaching creature is Lusca, whose special-event attack turns the submarine into a city-boss arena. Katia's inability to escape outside forces all four crawlers into the same crisis, while Quetzalcoatlus's presence explains how Henrik's attempt failed. Carl, Katia Grim, Tran, Vadim Zbar, Britney Proskurina, Gwen, Donut, Louis, Firas, Juice Box, Chris Andrews, Maggie My, Big Boy Blue fish, Quetzalcoatlus, and Lusca appear or are discussed.
