Chapter 18 of The Gate of the Feral Gods continues the Fifth Floor campaign in bubble 543. The chapter combines immediate survival work with new evidence about the bubble's overlapping castle stories. Its ending changes the party's next objective rather than functioning as an isolated encounter. Carl and Donut are transferred to a protected Veriluxx product segment controlled by Loita. Carl wants to damage the company, confront the administrator who replaced Zev, and demonstrate that outside staff are not immune from consequences. He must do so without leaving clear evidence that would authorize the Syndicate to execute or punish the crawlers. Before transfer, Carl experiments with infused smoke curtains and creates a chaotic multicolored effect that coats Robot Donut with reactive residue. Loita takes Carl, Donut, Mordecai, and the prototype to a studio where Veriluxx executives present holographic toys. Carl pressures the company over safety and compensation while positioning Robot Donut near Loita. A loosened back panel falls from the robot, and its material reacts with the residue and studio environment. The window breaches, Loita loses water, and Borant must choose between lowering shields to save her or preserving Carl and Donut. Loita dies. Carl designs the event as an ambiguous chain rather than a direct weapon attack. He exploits predictable corporate decisions, Robot Donut's poor construction, and Loita's distraction. Donut participates in the confrontation but does not receive the complete plan in advance, preserving her plausible reaction. Carl accepts that the act is personal retaliation and later states that his future resistance is for himself and his people. Infusion can combine smoke effects with potions, though failed or unstable mixtures may create unexpected residues. Off-floor transfers temporarily alter interface and inventory access. Studio shields protect the profitable crawlers, while the kua-tin administrator depends on a water environment. The conflict exposes how corporate safety systems assign value according to revenue and rank. Repair craft seal the studio after Loita dies. Carl and Donut survive, but they are not returned directly to their personal space. The chapter closes with a Cookbook note and Carl's declaration that the system will not break him and that he intends to make those responsible burn. Loita's death triggers a formal Syndicate investigation and a punishment preventing third-party teleports for the remainder of the floor. The act demonstrates that Carl can reach beyond scripted enemies, escalating the political stakes. It also risks Zev, Mordecai, Donut, and other crawlers if investigators can establish intent. Carl, Donut, Mordecai, Loita, Robot Donut, Veriluxx representatives Liddi and Gravo, holographic Donut and Mongo products, and repair crews appear. The infusion accident, reactive panel, shield choice, administrator death, and Cookbook declaration define the chapter.
