Chapter 5 of The Gate of the Feral Gods continues the Fifth Floor campaign in bubble 543. The chapter combines immediate survival work with new evidence about the bubble's overlapping castle stories. Its ending changes the party's next objective rather than functioning as an isolated encounter. Carl needs to convert the scattered Hump Town crawlers into a usable team and learn what happened to the destroyed Bactrian settlement. Louis and Firas are heavily intoxicated, argumentative, and poorly prepared for a castle campaign. Juice Box's extraordinary shifting also raises the possibility that the town contains more than ordinary dromedarian refugees. Mordecai studies Juice Box and explains that her rapid race shifting is far beyond the normal crawler version of a changeling. Carl calls a meeting with Louis, Firas, Donut, Katia, and Mordecai, confronts the men about their behavior, and asks about their abilities. Mordecai gives both crawlers a treatment that causes extended vomiting and prevents future intoxication. Louis reveals a level 11 Cloud spell capable of knocking out groups, while messages from Elle provide information about the Water and Land quadrants. Carl nearly rejects Louis and Firas, but chooses rehabilitation and assignment over abandonment. Mordecai administers the treatment without giving the men a fully informed choice, prioritizing survival over autonomy. Katia and Donut support the intervention through pressure and ridicule. The group decides that the Cloud spell is useful enough to incorporate into the Town Hall infiltration despite its limitations against high-level targets. Changelings can copy certain racial abilities and are constrained by mass, contact, skill, and the strength of the selected form. Louis's Cloud has a ten-minute cooldown and wakes enemies when they are struck. The anti-intoxication treatment is described as beneficial poisoning: it removes alcohol dependence as an immediate operational variable but produces severe short-term illness and emotional anger. The chapter ends with Louis learning that he can no longer become drunk and protesting that alcohol was all he had left. He and Firas are physically sober, the party understands their classes, and Carl now has access to a crowd-control spell. The emotional problem is not solved, but the team is more capable than it was at the start of the meeting. Louis and Firas become recurring allies rather than disposable comic figures. Cloud is central to the Town Hall plan, and the forced treatment begins Louis's long transformation into a pilot and Army Air General. Mordecai's analysis of Juice Box foreshadows the hidden changeling operation and her later importance to the Fifth Floor story. Carl, Donut, Katia, Mordecai, Mongo, Louis, Firas, Juice Box, Elle, Imani, and the Hump Town residents appear or communicate. The chapter develops changeling race rules, the Cloud spell, anti-intoxication treatment, and the allied crawler network inside bubble 543.
