Redstone Grimaldi, commonly called Ringmaster Grimaldi, is a dwarf, the owner of Grimaldi's Traveling Circus, and the adoptive protector and later partner of Signet. Scolopendra's poison transforms him into a level 85 elite Pestiferous Vine city boss. He eventually releases the circus performers from parasitic control and becomes physically integrated with the All Tree, leaving his final personal state ambiguous. Grimaldi built the traveling circus as a community rather than merely a commercial act. He rescued Signet when she was a child and helped raise her among performers who became her family. Their relationship later became romantic and collaborative. This history explains why Signet seeks him even after the dungeon has turned his body into the center of a boss quest. The Scolopendra disaster changes Grimaldi into a Pestiferous Vine. Spores and wormlike parasites bind the circus performers to him, preserve their memories, and regenerate their bodies after repeated deaths. The result is a grotesque system of involuntary continuity: the family remains present, but its members cannot freely leave or permanently end their roles. Carl learns that poisoned blood can kill a pestiferous vine. He uses poison and later healthy blood to manipulate the confrontation and obtain production concessions for Vengeance of the Daughter. Carl also ingests a parasite, creating direct contact with Grimaldi's mind, while Wisp Armor helps him resist the vine's attempt to control him. Grimaldi ultimately relinquishes or kills the parasites controlling the circus. The performers are freed from the cycle, then crumble because the same system that sustained them is gone. The act restores agency at terrible cost and establishes that Grimaldi retained love, memory, and moral choice despite the boss transformation. Signet carries Grimaldi to the Sixth Floor and plants him beside an All Tree node. His roots intertwine with the tree until he becomes part of it. The novels do not provide a clean death notice or a later independent recovery. Signet's hope that she might someday say goodbye preserves the uncertainty, so the event should not be summarized as a confirmed death.
