Chapter 34 of The Gate of the Feral Gods belongs to the final fifth floor operation and descent sequence on the Fifth Floor. It combines a discrete survival problem with the evolving Gate, bubble, divine, and crawler-coordination storylines. Five and a half hours remain before collapse. Carl appears to be preparing a Gate strike on the Skull Empire, but Maggie My and the parasitized Chris Andrews are moving beneath the sand to stop the artifact. A separate feral god is approaching while calling for Samantha. The party must free Chris, preserve the real Gate, complete the Larracos attack, move Juice Box and Katia to safety, and reach the stairwell before time expires. Carl buries a winding box near the stairwell and stages the apparent countdown while the real artifact is positioned in the Water Quadrant. A feral god wielding a colossal chain approaches, and Carl opens an emergency platinum sponsor box containing a head-tossing extension. He throws Samantha far enough for the pursuing entity to leave the immediate area. Juice Box detects Maggie and Chris under the sand. When Chris grabs the staged box, its facsimile pieces scatter. Carl drinks Phase Lava Rock, reaches through Chris's head, and extracts the Scree worm. Maggie burrows into Carl, but a double-healing potion expels her through his neck, and Mongo kills her. Donut loots the corpse, Chris recovers, and Juice Box flies toward the real portal. Katia opens the Gate into the Ninth Floor faction market, sending timed bombs, water, sharks, jellies, and other hazards into Larracos. After Katia reaches the stairwell, Carl, Donut, Mongo, and Chris prepare to descend. Carl displays the Ring of Divine Suffering and publicly vows to kill every hunter on the Sixth Floor. Carl and Katia conceal the artifact swap even from many allies so Maggie's sponsors will attack the decoy. He chooses a cure that exposes him to possession rather than killing Chris. Samantha is used as a lure because the approaching entity's fixation creates a path away from the stairwell. Juice Box accepts transfer to Larracos and agrees to contact self-aware NPCs. Carl knowingly targets Ninth Floor infrastructure and armies, accepting large NPC casualties because the strike destroys sponsor supply lines and changes the Hunting Grounds balance. A Gate countdown cancels if its box moves too far, but a physical facsimile can deceive observers. Phase Lava Rock lets Carl pass through Chris while leaving the parasite solid. A rapid double-healing treatment can force the Scree worm from a new host before it reaches the brain. NPCs can pass through a cross-floor Gate even though crawlers cannot use it to skip progression. Gate currents can transport water, mobs, explosives, and environmental matter. Ninth Floor NPC merchants cannot simply be replaced after the level is created, making the market attack strategically persistent. Maggie is dead, Chris is free, Juice Box enters Larracos, Katia escapes through the Subterranean stairwell, and the true Gate remains available rather than being destroyed. Larracos suffers flooding, explosions, sharks, and disruption of sponsor markets and hidden armies. Carl becomes the top-ranked crawler and descends with Donut, Mongo, and Chris after challenging the Sixth Floor hunters directly. The Larracos attack damages Faction Wars logistics months before crawlers arrive and forces sponsors to reconsider how they equip armies. Preserving the Gate creates future strategic options, while Juice Box begins organizing recurring NPCs from inside the Ninth Floor. Freeing Chris resolves the immediate parasite arc but leaves Brandon's death and Meadow Lark trauma intact. Carl's vow reframes the Hunting Grounds as a counter-hunt and establishes the central conflict of the next novel. Carl, Princess Donut, Mongo, Katia Grim, Chris Andrews, Maggie My, Juice Box, Samantha, Mordecai, Zev, Louis, Firas, Imani, Elle, Prince Stalwart, the Skull Empire, Open Intellect Pacifist Action Network, Sixth Floor hunters, and the System AI appear or are discussed.
