She first appears as a background expert during a studio event and later uses a live interview with Ripper Wonton to connect the Earth crawl, Scolopendra, the Eulogist, and the historical nine-tier attack. Sydnee is a female Saccathian with a tentacled face. Carl compares her general form to Princess D'Nadia but notes that Sydnee is about half the size. During her first appearance she wears a simple blue sheet resembling a dirty toga. Her badge identifies her as a crawl historian. Sydnee sits with Uptown Hal and the former crawler Drick during a studio or waiting-room sequence. She speaks animatedly about historical audience numbers while Drick listens without visible enthusiasm. Carl does not recognize any of the three at first, and nearby guards know little about Sydnee beyond the title on her badge. The scene establishes her as a specialist who circulates inside the broadcast ecosystem without the celebrity of a leading host. Her knowledge initially appears peripheral to Carl because he cannot hear or understand the full discussion. By the Book 8 epilogue, Sydnee has written A Petite Chronicle of the Crawl: One Lady's Journey into Enlightenment Through Knowledge and Scholarship and Three-Beat Poetry. Ripper Wonton introduces it as a best seller that has passed one trillion copies. The comic title and poetry format make her scholarship easy to underestimate.
