Remex was a former crawler, retired skyfowl dark cleric, and withering spirit transformed into a Soul Leech capacitor on the Third Floor. Bound to an amplifier in Zockau, he reveals Miss Quill's genocidal plan and the danger of a massive magical detonation. His discovery also exposes how past crawlers can be recycled as NPCs. Remex was once a crawler who reached at least the Tenth Floor and took an exit deal, a survivor sometimes described as a "tenner." He later became part of the dungeon's reusable character population. His earlier fame is implied by the sudden rise in views when Carl and Donut discover him. Within the Third Floor story, he is a skyfowl dark cleric who once held authority before retiring in favor of Featherfall. He had a wife, Miss Quill, and a son whom he desperately hopes to rejoin after death. Remex says an orc killed him years earlier. Featherfall later uses dark resurrection with Miss Quill's assistance to pull Remex's soul back as a Soul Leech. The creature is neither properly alive nor dead and remains tethered to the person or object central to the spell. The manifested body resembles a featherless, zombified skyfowl with black swirling eyes, dark smoke, and worm-like spiritual wisps in place of wings. A golden tether connects him to a floating amber soul gem and the larger amplifier below. A Soul Leech stores souls and mana for a controller. Even a scratch can rip a victim's soul from the body. Remex's position beside the amplifier lets him absorb the energy of deaths across the area and the power feeding the animated swordsmen. After Miss Quill dies, he becomes a bereft minion. He remains in agony and without an active controller, but the accumulated energy continues to destabilize the system. Killing him carelessly may worsen the danger. Remex explains that Miss Quill manipulated Featherfall into casting near the amplifier. Feedback killed Featherfall and left Remex as her capacitor. Using forgery magic, she concealed the magistrate's death and governed the settlement while preparing an inherited spell called the Final War. The spell would protect selected skyfowl families and unleash forces that killed nearly everyone else in the Over City. By killing Miss Quill before the final casting, Carl's group unknowingly prevents genocide. Once Remex completes his explanation, the stored energy creates a new crisis. The soul gem begins a sequence of precursor bursts followed by a huge wild-magic explosion. The first burst temporarily removes magical properties from equipped gear and disables animated swordsmen. Carl and Donut use a Sheol Glass Reaper Case to contain the gem, preventing the expected immediate catastrophe but not eliminating every magical effect. The group races to warn crawlers and protect equipment as the remaining bursts unfold. Remex is relieved to finish the story because earlier crawlers had killed him before he could deliver it. He says sunrise will end him and calls death on the Third Floor a mercy compared with being taken deeper. As the countdown continues, he rocks in the corner and speaks to his absent son. The floor collapse and magical discharge end his current existence. Later, Mordecai identifies him as a dangerous type of withering spirit, confirming the nature of the transformation. No later independent Remex incarnation is recorded. Remex is an early proof that a celebrated crawler can survive a season only to be trapped in future content. His exposition is not merely lore delivery; it is a coerced script he has practiced across resets, hoping to complete it before another death. Carl's pity and Donut's fear of becoming an NPC connect Remex to the broader resistance against reuse. His story combines the personal horror of failed escape with the mechanical danger of souls treated as stored energy.
