Carl and Florin are allied crawlers whose association develops from distant awareness into a close military partnership. Carl first knows Florin as another highly ranked survivor: a crawler with a private-security background who becomes a Crocodilian Shotgun Messenger and fights beside the healer Ifechi. Their first meeting follows one of Florin's worst losses, when Carl and other crawlers help free him from a fifth-floor bubble. On the following floors, the two men become part of the same informal coalition, share intelligence, and divide responsibility during large battles. By Faction Wars, Carl relies on Florin as a general and field commander for the Princess Posse.

Their alliance is based less on personal intimacy than on professional confidence. Carl recognizes that Florin understands soldiers, weapons, defensive positions, and conventional warfare in ways that most crawlers do not. Florin, in turn, accepts Carl's strategic leadership even when he questions a plan or supplies unwelcome battlefield news. The major complication between them is Lucia Mar. Lucia kills Ifechi through reflected damage, later becomes Florin's responsibility, and repeatedly threatens Donut. Carl therefore has to balance his trust in Florin against his refusal to treat Lucia as safe.

Awareness before their first meeting

Carl learns Florin's name before the two share a scene. Near the end of the third floor, Florin appears fourth on the crawler rankings as a level-24 Crocodilian Shotgun Messenger, while Carl is sixth. Carl recognizes him as the crocodile-headed crawler with a shotgun but does not yet know him personally. Subsequent recap material identifies Ifechi as Florin's partner and establishes them as an unusually effective pair. Florin's automatic shotgun provides overwhelming ranged damage, while Ifechi's leech-based staff kills enemies and produces consumable creatures whose buffs are especially effective for a Crocodilian.

This early information shapes Carl's later view of Florin. He sees a capable, armed crawler with experience outside the dungeon rather than merely another name on the leaderboard. A fifth-floor recap describes Florin as French, carrying an Australian accent, and having been in Africa at the time of the collapse. Florin refers to a background in private security, which Carl interprets as mercenary work. Although that conclusion is Carl's inference rather than a full biography, it gives him a practical explanation for Florin's firearm skill, vigilance, and later ease with military command.

The same recap shows Carl the event that defines Florin's conduct for several floors. At a stairwell, Lucia Mar provokes a confrontation with Florin and Ifechi. Ifechi places protection on Florin and another crawler but leaves herself unprotected. Lucia then uses reflected-damage magic so that Florin's rapid shotgun fire against Lucia and her dogs is redirected into Ifechi. Florin receives credit for killing his own partner and is marked with a player-killer skull. Carl immediately understands that the system is assigning guilt to the victim of Lucia's mechanism. Watching Florin discover Ifechi's body gives Carl context for the grief and anger he later encounters in person.

The fifth-floor rescue

After Ifechi's death, Florin initially fails to advance through his assigned bubble. He remains in the starting room rather than choosing a quadrant, falls out of the top ten, and eventually emerges into a section where every other crawler is already dead. He clears three castles alone but cannot complete the airborne castle required to escape. Carl, Donut, Katia, and Elle's wider effort to save trapped crawlers reaches him before the floor collapses.

Carl and Florin finally meet after that rescue. Florin greets Carl with a fist bump and directly credits Carl, Donut, Elle, and Katia with freeing him from the final castle. The exchange is brief, but it changes their relationship from one-sided recognition to acknowledged alliance. Florin is also one of the crawlers who agrees to travel with Katia on the next floor. Carl is reluctant to separate from Katia, yet he accepts her decision and knows Florin will be part of a substantial party around her. The choice places Florin inside the same network of survivors even though Carl and Donut follow a different route.

Cooperation on the Hunting Grounds

On the sixth floor, Carl and Florin operate in different groups for much of the Hunting Grounds. Carl receives reports that Florin has become brooding and difficult after Ifechi's death, but he continues to regard him as dependable in combat. When the crawler coalition begins hunting the hunters, Florin serves as a mobile gunfighter and tracker. He kills two Goriff hunters and later intercepts five fleeing hunters identified by Li Na. During a coordinated assault, Carl gives the timing, instructs the crawlers to avoid hand-to-hand combat until the explosive spiders detonate, and expects Florin to act on the shared plan.

The Butcher's Masquerade tests both their cooperation and Carl's willingness to overrule Florin for his own safety. The crawlers have agreed that anyone whose loved one is used as Queen Imogen's appearance should leave through the stairs. When Imogen appears in the body of Ifechi's twin sister, Carl tells Katia to get Florin out and reminds Florin of the rule. Florin refuses, pointing out that Carl has not sent Donut away despite her exposure to danger. Carl does not force the issue, but his concern is justified: the likeness is designed to destabilize Florin. Florin ultimately distinguishes the twin from Ifechi and remains functional, telling Carl that the woman being imitated deserves rescue rather than exploitation.

The Masquerade also confronts both men with Lucia. Carl initially expects Florin to attack her, but instead witnesses a frightened personality within Lucia embrace him and ask for help. Florin responds protectively and tells the others that the people inside her must be kept safe. When Lucia abruptly changes personalities and resumes threatening Donut, Florin de-escalates instead of retaliating. Carl remains bewildered and cautious, but he accepts Florin's signal to leave Lucia alone for the moment. This is the first time Carl sees that Florin's pursuit of Lucia has moved beyond revenge into an attempt to understand and protect the children or personalities trapped within her.

During the final Masquerade battle, Carl assigns the main group to strike Queen Imogen in rhythm and explicitly tells them to follow Florin's lead. Carl, Donut, Katia, and Imani concentrate on Diwata while Florin directs sustained physical fire against Imogen. The arrangement shows the division of labor that later defines Faction Wars: Carl controls the overall operation and handles the exceptional threat, while Florin organizes the conventional attack. Florin's shotgun becomes the audible beat of the assault, and the surrounding crawlers coordinate their projectiles around it.

Separate fronts on the eighth floor

The eighth floor scatters the coalition across Earth-themed regions, so Carl and Florin cooperate mostly through messages and occasional meetings in the guild. Florin begins in Ecuador, later operates in Nigeria, and remains in intermittent contact with Lucia. When Carl sees him at a guild gathering, he asks directly how Florin is coping and what is happening with Lucia. Florin answers that he is surviving, that his six-card squad is full, and that Lucia communicates with him only sometimes. He reports progress—she no longer attacks him on sight—without pretending he understands her condition.

Their card exchange illustrates the practical trust between them. Florin has a powerful unique totem, Uzi Jesus, but lacks enough Charisma to control him; the totem has already shot Florin in the stomach. Donut immediately wants the card, and it enters Carl and Donut's deck. The gift is useful but troublesome: Uzi Jesus is extremely strong, can heal, and frequently ignores instructions. Carl later sends Florin a sarcastic thank-you after experiencing the same control problem, and Florin responds with amusement. The episode shows that their friendship can carry blunt humor as well as battlefield reports.

Carl also uses Florin as a remote tester when the eighth-floor stairwell rules threaten to force crawlers into lethal confrontations. Florin enters a stairwell chamber early at Carl's request and attempts to place a trap inside it. The system rejects the trap because the chamber is outside the level. Florin immediately relays the failure, and both understand that Carl's proposed escape from further bloodshed will not work. This small experiment demonstrates why Carl values Florin: he is willing to test a dangerous rule, describe the result precisely, and move on without argument.

Near the end of the floor, Florin again acts as an indirect bridge between Carl's coalition and Lucia. He goes downstairs before the main group, but Lucia later says that he asked her to help them. She delivers five guild upgrades, including one installed in Imani's room, before descending. Her assistance does not erase the danger—she also renews her threat against Donut and Mongo—but it proves Florin can sometimes persuade her to aid the larger crawler community. Carl accepts the benefit while keeping the threat separate from Florin's assurances.

Command partnership during Faction Wars

On the ninth floor, Carl formalizes the role Florin has already been performing. Donut grants him a senior officer rank, and Florin reorganizes the Princess Posse hierarchy before settling on the title of General. Carl welcomes the appointment because Florin has military experience, understands hardware, and had spent the previous floor seeking tanks and other useful equipment. When Donut worries that the title is affecting Florin, Carl defends him: Imani is skilled with people, but Florin is skilled with soldiers, and Faction Wars demands both kinds of leadership.

Florin immediately helps convert the coalition into an army. He travels to headquarters with Imani, works with the adjutant, sets officer ranks, establishes scouting rules, and begins planning defenses. He warns Carl that the base is probably already infiltrated, calls for observation towers and full territorial sweeps, and has traps prepared against enemy countermeasures. He also explains limits on scouts and officers instead of waiting for Carl to discover them during combat. Carl keeps sensitive planning in private chat and specifically assigns Florin and Elle to investigate systems that cannot safely be discussed aloud.

The Princess Posse's northern defense becomes Florin's principal responsibility. His 101st Crocodiles hold that front, supported at different times by the 105th Scream Warriors and other units. Florin reports enemy movement before the ceasefire ends, orders positions manned, prepares fallback trenches, and warns when his line cannot be sustained without air or infantry support. Carl treats those assessments as operational facts. He reroutes reinforcements, arranges bombing support from Louis, and changes priorities when Florin says the enemy armor is about to break through.

Their messages during the fighting show mutual confidence without blind obedience. Florin tells Carl when the 101st captures enemy armor, when a retreat corridor must remain open, and when pursuit beyond friendly territory would be unsafe. Carl praises successful captures, asks Florin to investigate malfunctioning equipment, and cautions him not to push too far into hostile ground. Before Carl faces King Rust, Florin urges him to keep the orc talking while the northern forces reposition. Both men close the exchange by warning the other to stay alive, using humor without obscuring the danger.

During Operation Ruin, Florin's command expands from defensive work to a coordinated offensive. He directs forces against the orcs, calls targets for missile support, adapts to minefields, and withdraws units when their objectives are complete. Carl continues to handle the wider, interlocking plan, but he does not micromanage Florin's battlefield decisions. That independence is the clearest measure of their relationship: Carl trusts Florin with a whole front, and Florin keeps Carl informed enough to integrate it with air strikes, sabotage, and the other crawler-led assaults.

Trust, limits, and Lucia Mar

Despite their military closeness, Carl never gives Florin's judgment about Lucia the same unconditional trust he gives his combat reports. Florin repeatedly tries to protect her, while Carl must protect Donut from Lucia's stated intention to kill her. The two men nevertheless discuss Lucia candidly. After Carl traps and incapacitates her during the ninth-floor crisis, he tells Florin what happened. Florin laughs at the successful net trap but also says he will volunteer to keep Lucia safe if she refuses an exit deal. Carl neither mistakes that commitment for betrayal nor assumes it makes Lucia harmless.

The final minutes of the ninth floor preserve that difference between them. Florin persuades Lucia to party with him and says she has agreed to take a deal, but he doubts she will follow through. Because of that doubt, he refuses to take a deal himself and remains responsible for her descent. Carl understands the decision even though it carries Florin into further danger. Their alliance has reached a point where disagreement over Lucia does not destroy their trust: Carl can oppose her, Florin can protect her, and both can continue working toward the survival of the remaining crawlers.

Carl and Florin's relationship therefore grows through demonstrated competence rather than declarations of friendship. Carl first sees Florin as a ranked stranger, then as a traumatized survivor, then as a reliable fighter, and finally as a commander able to translate Carl's plans into organized military action. Florin does not simply follow Carl; he supplies expertise Carl lacks, challenges unsafe assumptions, and takes responsibility for people whom others would abandon. Their partnership is strongest when the dungeon forces individual crises into collective battles, because each man can trust the other to hold a different part of the same line.
