Amayon is a level 250 demon lord, one of the four princes of Sheol, former partner of the goddess Ysalte, and father of her child. Banished by one of his brothers, he enters the Eighth Floor inside the body of the Madre de Aguas and attempts to return home through a soul-powered portal. Amayon belongs to Sheol royalty and has three princely brothers. Family rivalry drives his expulsion from Sheol. Even in a weakened state he is far beyond ordinary crawler power, and his presence changes local fire effects into Sheol fire for followers of the Scavenger's Daughter. He has a prior relationship with Ysalte, who is described as his former girlfriend and the mother of his child. The quest text states that he once controlled her when she tried to leave, and she later seizes control of him in return. Their conflict is both personal abuse and an Ascendency power struggle. The Madre de Aguas succumbs to zombism, dies, and rises. The curse leaves the lesser deity vulnerable, allowing Amayon to slip involuntarily into the realm and occupy her body. His arrival produces a regional warning and a Platinum To Hell in a Handbasket Box for witnessing Sheol royalty. The system's treatment of a vast number of dead crab sperm as mobs contributes to the demon eviction conditions. Lesser demons can be sent away when they take infected sluggalos or other qualifying souls. Amayon, however, requires an enormous tithe because of his power. The Where the Sidewalk Ends quest gives crawlers three broad choices: help him return, free him into his full form, or kill him. Freeing him would create an unprecedented world quest with an untethered hell prince. Killing him is functionally impossible because he is invulnerable on the floor. Ysalte attempts to keep Amayon as a retainer for the Ascendency. Sister Ines works with the demon crisis and increasingly loses control as events accelerate. Amayon calls to Carl for aid while attacking or restraining himself under conflicting control. The T'Ghee battle overlays Amayon with totems and cards. He summons powerful demons and tries to build enough force to complete the return spell. Ysalte's death at the hands of the Paz card breaks a major part of the control structure. Amayon casts a wide-area portal intended to consume the souls within Cuba and pay his passage home. Carl's coalition attempts to substitute demon and crab-related soul value while rescuing crawlers. The sky fills with the spell's red cloud as Amayon continues casting. His relationship with Samantha adds another thread. Amayon recognizes her deeper identity and refers to Emberus when addressing Carl. Samantha responds by asking about Amayon's mother, provoking immediate anger. Amayon claims to know what happened to Geyrun, Emberus's murdered son. This information makes him relevant after the Eighth Floor. Emberus negotiates a breach of peace that may allow violence against other Sheol princes in exchange for the truth. Carl's later quest continues to treat Amayon as an active source rather than a dead enemy. No death notice is recorded for Amayon. The portal sequence is designed to return him toward Sheol, and Book 8 still attributes knowledge and claims to him. His exact location is not shown, but he remains alive and connected to the unresolved Geyrun investigation.
